Old Testament: Psa 57.7–8
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalms 56–58 on July 29, In the year of our Lord Christ 2023
By Don Ruhl
We set our hearts on things and people, but let the God of heaven prompt us to have steadfast hearts, as the psalmist said, “My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. Awake, my glory! Awake, lute and harp! I will awaken the dawn” (Psalm 57.7–8).
I think we sometimes want God to make our hearts steadfast automatically or miraculously, but he wants us to want to have steadfast hearts.
He expects us to exercise the necessary discipline to be what he wants us to be. He will help, and he will train us, but we have to be like the psalmist and decide that we want it.
When we have that commitment, it will move us to praise him, just like the psalmist.
Questions:
- When do you sing praise?
- What have you done to make your heart steadfast?
