Obey the Lord and he will provide for you

Old Testament: Exo 16.22–26

To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 16–18 on January 28, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

The Lord wanted Israel to observe the Sabbath, which meant that during the Wilderness Wanderings, they could not go out and gather manna, as they did on other days.

However, they would not be short on food, because the rulers of Israel noticed that they gathered twice as much on Friday as the other days.

They reported to Moses what they saw: “And so it was, on the sixth day, that they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for each one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. Then he said to them, ‘This is what the LORD has said: “Tomorrow is a Sabbath rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil; and lay up for yourselves all that remains, to be kept until morning.”’ So they laid it up till morning, as Moses commanded; and it did not stink, nor were there any worms in it. Then Moses said, ‘Eat that today, for today is a Sabbath to the LORD; today you will not find it in the field. Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will be none’” (Exodus 16.22–26).

As Jesus taught (Matthew 6.33), seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and he will take care of your needs.

Questions:

  • Have you tried letting the Lord provide for you?
  • Can you say that you are seeking to do his will?
