A good question to ask the Lord

New Testament: John 13.36

To read the Bible in a year, read John 13.18–38 on June 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

We criticize Peter for many of the things that he said and did, but in John 13, he heard Jesus say that he was going away and that the apostles could not follow him immediately. That moved Peter to ask a good question.

The past three and a half years had been all about following Jesus! Then Jesus said that they could not follow him?

Therefore, Peter wanted to know something, “Simon Peter said to Him, ‘Lord, where are You going?’ Jesus answered him, ‘Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward’” (John 13.36).

The other apostles may have wanted to ask that question, but they did not and Peter did ask it.

Unfortunately, Peter was so set on following the Lord at that moment, he insisted that he be able to follow the Lord, claiming that he would die for the Lord. Perhaps you know what happened next.

Questions:

  • Where was Jesus going?
  • Did Peter and the rest follow Jesus later?
