We are in the world for a reason

New Testament: John 17.15–16

To read the Bible in a year, read John 17 on June 8, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

We want to get away from the world. We want to find places to live that will be friendly to us, but we have to remember why the Lord leaves us in the world, even after we have become Christians.

Jesus prayed to the Father about his disciples: “I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world” (John 17.15–16).

While he did not reveal in those two sentences why we are in the world, we know from elsewhere in Scripture, why we are in this world.

The point I want to make is that we are in this world for his purposes, and we need to make sure that we do not get so caught up in seeking what we want, that we as followers of the Lord Jesus Christ forget why we are followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Questions:

  • Why are we in this world?
  • Do you seek to do this will daily?
