New Testament: John 19.4
To read the Bible in a year, read John 19.1–22 on June 11, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024
By Don Ruhl
The Jewish leaders had taken Jesus to Pilate, wanting him to put Jesus to death. However, Pilate examined Jesus and came to a different conclusion: “Pilate then went out again, and said to them, ‘Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him’” (John 19.4).
Granted, Pilate was only a man and ultimately what matters is what God says about anyone, especially about his Son. Yet, Pilate was used to investigating people who had been accused of crimes and Pilate examined Jesus without partiality. That led Pilate to conclude one thing, that Jesus had no fault.
What then would Pilate do?
Questions from today’s reading and devotional:
- What would you do if you an angry mob had delivered an innocent man to you?
- What was the name of the place where the judgment seat of Pilate was located?
