What about the other guy?

New Testament: John 21.20–21

To read the Bible in a year, read John 21 on June 14, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

Jesus told Peter directly to follow him. What did Peter do? He looked around. His eye caught John, and Peter asked the Lord, “But Lord, what about this man?” (John 21.20–21).

  • Did Peter think that the Lord only wanted Peter to follow him?
  • Did Peter think that the Lord was being unfair?
  • What moved Peter to ask the Lord about John?

Perhaps the Lord wanted John to do something else. Whatever the case, Peter had to follow the Lord. Do not complicate things, Peter, just follow Jesus. And he did follow Jesus and the world has never been the same since.

Questions:

  • Do you let what others are doing or not doing affect what you do for the Lord?
  • How did John describe himself in verse 20?
