The opposite occurred

Old Testament: Esther 9.1

To read the Bible in a year, read Esther 7–10 on June 23, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

One of the things that we love about the Bible is that things do not always work out the way that we expect. A powerful enemy enters the scene and it appears that God’s people cannot win.

However, the opposite occurs, which is the story of the Book of Esther. Esther 9.1 summarizes the the story: “Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month of Adar, on the thirteenth day, the time came for the king’s command and his decree to be executed. On the day that the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them, the opposite occurred, in that the Jews themselves overpowered those who hated them” (Esther 9.1).

Think of all that you have read in the Scriptures. Is that not a theme that plays out repeatedly?

Therefore, have faith like the people of the Bible had and watch how the opposite occurs in your life.

Questions from today’s reading and devotional:

  • What was the name of the king?
  • Why did many of the people of the land become Jews?
