Old Testament: Job 6.8–10
To read the Bible in a year, read Job 4–6 on June 25, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

Poor Job. How can we picture the suffering of this man of God? He wished that he was dead. That is what Job 3 is about.
As he debated with his friends, who were rebuking him for wishing that he was dead, he pleaded:
“Oh, that I might have my request,
That God would grant me the thing that I long for!
That it would please God to crush me,
That He would loose His hand and cut me off!
Then I would still have comfort;
Though in anguish I would exult,
He will not spare;
For I have not concealed the words of the Holy One.”
– Job 6.8–10
Who can blame him? Not one of us would want to go through what that pitiable man suffered.
He wanted to die, but he never attempted to take his own life. He believed that he would never see good again, which is why many people take their lives. However, through his patience he endured much misery and did eventually see good again.
Questions from today’s reading and devotional:
- Eliphaz said, “Happy is the man whom God…” does what?
- What should be shown to one who is afflicted?
