A Prisoner Leads

New Testament: Acts 27.33–34

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 27.26–44 on July 28, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

Paul’s journey to Rome, as a prisoner amazes me. As a prisoner he cared for everyone on the ship taking him to Rome and he even did some leading.

During a storm that threatened their lives, Luke wrote, “And as day was about to dawn, Paul implored them all to take food, saying, ‘Today is the fourteenth day you have waited and continued without food, and eaten nothing. Therefore I urge you to take nourishment, for this is for your survival, since not a hair will fall from the head of any of you’” (Acts 27.33–34).

The man showed no bitterness. He had no intention of seeking a lawsuit for his unjust imprisonment. He simply used his life circumstances to minister to others and to glorify God.

Questions:

  • How many days had they fasted?
  • What do you do when things go against you through no fault of your own?
