Old Testament: Psa 78.36–37
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalm 78 on August 6, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024
By Don Ruhl
Why do some children of God turn away from him? Psalm 78 reviews the history of Israel, and after saying that they would remember that God was their rock, the psalmist then said: “Nevertheless they flattered Him with their mouth, and they lied to Him with their tongue; for their heart was not steadfast with Him, nor were they faithful in His covenant” (Psalm 78.36–37).
Having suffered for their rebellion, they would confess who he was to them, but in their hearts they still had not returned to him fully.
Therefore, the lack of a heart steadfastly set on the God of heaven was the problem. Many Christians fall away for the same reason.
Questions:
- Have you fallen away before?
- What made you come back?
