Do not think that you are better than others

New Testament: Rom 11.17–18

To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 11.1–21 on August 11, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

The Gospel went to the Jews first, and many accepted it, but later, the majority rejected it and now the message is going to the Gentiles.

We Gentiles might be tempted to think that we are better than the Jews. However, Paul warned against such thinking: “And if some of the branches [the Jews] were broken off, and you [Gentiles], being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you” (Romans 11.17–18).

We are late-comers. Yet, we are in the tree, and we should be humble and praise God for it. He is allowing us to enjoy the root and fatness of the olive tree, not because we are better than the Jews, but that God is showing his generosity toward us.
