Consider everything about God

New Testament: Rom 11.22

To read the Bible in a year, read Romans 11.22–36 on August 12, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

Many people have false ideas on God and those ideas lead to troubled lives or belief in false doctrine. Therefore, we must get a full picture of our God.

Paul sought to give us such when he wrote: “Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off” (Romans 11.22).

Is God good? If we talk about his goodness, the discussion never ends.

Is God severe? If we talk about his severity, likewise the discussion never ends.

If we lined up the passages from the Bible on both aspects of God, it would overwhelm us. If we looked at both attributes of God as displayed in the world, it would silence us with wonder.

Some people want to ignore his severity and others want to ignore his goodness, but the Holy Spirit, through his infinite wisdom, knows that we need to understand both and so revealed both to us.

Get to know God entirely.

Questions from today’s reading and devotional:

  • When have you seen God’s goodness and when have you seen his severity?
  • What did Paul mean in verse 26 that all Israel would be saved?
