Old Testament: Psa 122.3–5
To read the Bible in a year, read Psalm 120–123 on August 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024
By Don Ruhl
David had just said that he was glad when he could go to the house of the Lord. The house of the Lord stood in Jerusalem.
Therefore, David said of Jerusalem: “Jerusalem is built as a city that is compact together, where the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, to the Testimony of Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD. For thrones are set there for judgment, the thrones of the house of David” (Psalm 122.3–5).
Jerusalem was the place to go, although one could also give the Lord thanks anywhere, but Jerusalem, with the tabernacle in David’s time, and later the temple, starting with Solomon, was the main place to give the Lord thanks.
Likewise, we can thank God anywhere at anytime, but we should also go to the true Jerusalem, which is the church, and gather with our brethren and thank the Lord.
Questions:
- Do you assemble with the church every Lord’s Day, the first day of the week?
- What does the church mean to you?
