Old Testament: Pro 23.19
To read the Bible in a year, read Proverbs 23–24 on September 13, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024
By Don Ruhl
The current teaching in the world is listen to your heart or to follow your heart. However, the Scriptures present a different way, and since this is what our Creator teaches, it is the better and right way: “Hear, my son, and be wise; and guide your heart in the way” (Proverbs 23.19).
The Bible warns against following our hearts in several places—one of which is Proverbs 28.26—and that we should guide our hearts instead.
The human heart has an incredible ability to deceive, as Jeremiah wrote (Jeremiah 17.9–10). Therefore, we cannot rely upon it for guidance, but we need to guide it by the things that we learn from the Spirit of God in the Scriptures.
Questions:
- Has your heart ever led you down the wrong path?
- Have the Scriptures ever led you down the wrong path?
