Solomon was a preacher first

Old Testament: Ecc 1.1

To read the Bible in a year, read Ecclesiastes 1–3 on September 17, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

Solomon began the Book of Ecclesiastes in this manner: “The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem” (Ecclesiastes 1.1).

Solomon saw himself first as a preacher, second as the son of David, third as the king in Jerusalem. Truly, we know him more as a preacher then we do as a king. The words he left behind in the Books of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, the Song of Solomon, and the two psalms he wrote (Psalms 72 and 127), show him as a preacher.

His work as a preacher affected more people for a longer time than his work as a king did.

We also influence more people by the words we speak than by the occupation of our lives.

What words then, flow out of your mouth?
