Here is how to pray

New Testament: Eph 3.14–19

To read the Bible in a year, read Ephesians 3 on October 1, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

One of the things that made the first century church powerful, and brought many people out of paganism and into the grace of Christ, was the way they prayed.

Listen to the spiritual content of Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian disciples of Christ: “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God” (Ephesians 3.14–19).

Do you want to watch new Christians take off in the Spirit and be strong, faithful, dedicated members of the church? If so, duplicate Paul’s prayer in your life. Ask God:

  • To strengthen them with might through his Spirit in the inner man
  • That Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith
  • That they might be rooted and grounded in love
  • That they may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height of God’s love
  • That they may know the love of Christ which passes knowledge
  • That you may be filled with all the fullness of God

Pray in that manner, and watch what happens.

Questions:

  • What do you pray for on behalf of new Christians?
  • What percentage of your prayers are for the health and safety of others?
