Do not mock what the Lord does

Old Testament: Isa 28.20–22

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 27–28 on October 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

In Isaiah 28.16–19, the prophet spoke of the Messiah who was to come. Then the prophet spoke of the great work that he would do, and warned that people should not mock it: “For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the covering so narrow that one cannot wrap himself in it. For the LORD will rise up as at Mount Perazim, He will be angry as in the Valley of Gibeon—that He may do His work, His awesome work, and bring to pass His act, His unusual act. Now therefore, do not be mockers, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts, a destruction determined even upon the whole earth” (Isaiah 28.20–22).

The Messiah came to set us free from our sins, but if we mock what he did, then not only do we remain shackled to our sins, but we just make the bonds tighter.

Have you confessed your belief that Jesus is the Messiah?

Questions:

  • What do you think of the work of the Messiah in making forgiveness available?
  • Have you mocked anything that the Lord has done?
