Old Testament: Isa 42.5
To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 41–42 on October 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024
By Don Ruhl
As the Lord was about to make a declaration of what he does, he first identified who he is, and this is a magnificent proclamation of our Creator: “Thus says God the LORD, who created the heavens and stretched them out, who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, who gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk on it…” (Isaiah 42.5).
You have to keep reading in your Bible to see what the Lord had to say.
However, let us think for a moment on how he introduced himself.
He created the heavens, and stretched them out. There is a spot where he began the natural creation, the universe, and stretched it out in all directions, and it is still going out at amazing speeds!
He spread forth the earth, covering it with all the stuff of nature that we observe. Whatever the earth produces, he set that in place and so now the natural creation perpetuates itself until the day that he ends it all.
Of all the living things on this earth, whether plant or animal, there is one to whom he gave special attention, giving breath to him, placing a spirit within, enabling him to walk upon their earth. That is man.
That all being true, we should certainly listen to what he says and present all the issues of our lives to him that we might live successfully on the earth.
Questions:
- How would you picture the greatness of God to someone who does not know him?
- What do you love about God the most?
