The creation of a new nation

Old Testament: Isa 55.4–5

To read the Bible in a year, read Isaiah 53–55 on October 14, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

The Lord God called for Israel to come to him and by doing so, they would live, and they would receive one who would be their leader and commander: “Indeed I have given him as a witness to the people, a leader and commander for the people” (Isaiah 55.4).

The result would be a new nation: “Surely you shall call a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you shall run to you, because of the LORD your God, and the Holy One of Israel; for He has glorified you” (Isaiah 55.5).

That new holy nation would be the church (1 Peter 2.9).

Questions from today’s reading and devotional:

  • Are you a faithful member of the local congregation where you live?
  • Did you realize that the church is a nation?
