Old Testament: Jeremiah 30.8-9
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 29-30 on October 31, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024
By Don Ruhl
The Lord used Jeremiah to prophesy of the attack by Babylon and the subsequent captivity of the nation of Judah. Sure enough, it came to pass just as the Lord had spoken through the prophet.
However, the Lord did not want to annihilate his people. He had to punish them and once they learned their lesson, he would break the yoke that the oppressor had laid upon their necks: “‘For it shall come to pass in that day,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘That I will break his yoke from your neck, and will burst your bonds; foreigners shall no more enslave them. But they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up for them” (Jeremiah 30.8-9).
That is precisely what happened. Judah returned to their land and later, Jesus came and reigned over the people in the church, for he is our spiritual David.
