A huge mistake

Old Testament: Jeremiah 37.1-2

To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 36-37 on November 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

Everything that Jeremiah had prophesied thus far, had come to pass.

Nevertheless, the king of Judah refused to listen to the prophecies of Jeremiah: “Now King Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah. But neither he nor his servants nor the people of the land gave heed to the words of the LORD which He spoke by the prophet Jeremiah” (Jeremiah 37.1-2).

You cannot make a greater mistake than failing to listen to God’s prophet, because it is not the words of the prophet, but it is God speaking through that prophet.

Therefore, pay close attention to everything you read in the Scriptures.

Questions from today’s reading and devotional:

  • Who was Zedekiah’s father?
  • Who all failed to give heed to the words spoken by Jeremiah?
