Speak what the Lord says to speak

Old Testament: Amos 3.4–8

To read the Bible in a year, read Amos 1–3 on December 14, In the year of our Lord Christ 2024

By Don Ruhl

When the Lord was about to do something, he revealed it to his prophets. He was like a lion who roared (Amos 3.4–5).

Therefore, when calamity struck, he was the one who did it: “If a trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid? If there is calamity in a city, will not the LORD have done it?” (Amos 3.6).

That city needed to awaken and find out wherein they had sinned, and repent before the Lord.

When God spoke, his prophets had to speak, especially if it spoke of impending doom: “Surely the Lord GOD does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets. A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken! Who can but prophesy?” (Amos 3.7–8).
