The men of Sodom sought to have the two angels who went to Lot’s house. He tried to protect them, and then Moses wrote: “And they said, ‘Stand back!’ Then they said, ‘This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.’ So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door” (Genesis 19.9). 

Do not let a strong, negative response frighten you, but stand your ground and the Lord will be with you, as he was with Lot.

• Do you cower in the face of criticism?
