Old Testament: Exo 5.15–16
To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 4–6 on January 23, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025
By Don Ruhl
Moses and Aaron approached Pharaoh, asking him to let Israel, who were slaves in Egypt, go into the wilderness to sacrifice to their God.
However, Pharaoh resisted and increased the work load of the children of Israel. In other words, their situation got worse: “Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried out to Pharaoh, saying, ‘Why are you dealing thus with your servants? There is no straw given to your servants, and they say to us, “Make brick!” And indeed your servants are beaten, but the fault is in your own people’” (Exodus 5.15–16).
Yet, eventually Pharaoh did let the children of Israel go. It turned out good in the end, but in the meantime, the children of Israel actually saw their situation get worse.
Questions:
- Are you in a situation now where it seems that things are only getting worse?
- Have you experienced things getting worse before they got better?
