Stand still and watch the Lord work

Old Testament: Exo 14.13–14

To read the Bible in a year, read Exodus 13–15 on January 27, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025

By Don Ruhl

Do you want to hear something mighty that can make you powerful? Listen to Moses speak to Israel as they were trapped between the Egyptian army and the Red Sea: “And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace” (Exodus 14.13–14).

Sometimes the Lord wants us to act, and when he does, we cannot have success until we act. At other times, there is nothing we can do, because it requires a solution beyond our abilities. Therefore, we have to stand still and watch what the Lord does, although when we face those times, one thing we should do is put our faith in the Lord and tell him so in prayer.

Questions:

  • How have you made it through times when the solution was beyond your ingenuity?
  • How do the words of Moses above affect you?
