Old Testament: Numbers 35.30
To read the Bible in a year, read Numbers 34–36 on March 5, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025

The Lord wanted murderers eliminated from the land, but he wanted proper procedures to making that happen. Therefore, he said: “Whoever kills a person, the murderer shall be put to death on the testimony of witnesses; but one witness is not sufficient testimony against a person for the death penalty” (Numbers 35.30).
The case needed to be established, and one witness was not enough to do so. This applies in all matters, and Christians should pursue it also, as Paul stated in Second Corinthians 13.1: “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.”
We should operate the same way, but sometimes slander is spread at the testimony of only one so-called witness.
Questions from today’s reading and devotional:
- How quick are you to believe whatever people say?
- Why is one witness not enough?
