Old Testament: Deuteronomy 4.12
To read the Bible in a year, read Deuteronomy 3–4 on March 7, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025
By Don Ruhl
What an awesome experience Israel had in the wilderness at Mount Sinai: “And the LORD spoke to you out of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound of the words, but saw no form; you only heard a voice” (Deuteronomy 4.12).
Can you imagine what that must have been like? It frightened Israel and they did not want to experience it again.
God’s voice will speak again when Jesus ascends from heaven in flaming fire, but he shall speak words of peace to his followers, but for those not his, it shall be a terrifying experience, especially when he expels them from his presence forever.
Questions from today’s reading and devotional:
- Have you imagined what the voice of God sounds like?
- Do you anticipate seeing him?
