Is Christ the son of David?

New Testament: Luke 20.41

To read the Bible in a year, read Luke 20.27–47 on April 26, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025

By Don Ruhl

Jesus presented a question to his critics because he wanted them to think beyond what they had already concluded: “And He said to them, ‘How can they say that the Christ is the Son of David?’” (Luke 20.41).

Jesus did not imply that the Christ was not the son of David, but Jesus wanted them to see that he was much more than the son of David.

Questions from today’s reading and devotional:

  • How can Jesus be David’s son and Lord at the same time?
  • Who do you say that Jesus is?
