Do not gather yes-men around you

Old Testament: 1Ki 22.6

To read the Bible in a year, read First Kings 21–22 on May 10, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025

It is tempting to put people around us who will tell us what we want to hear, and there are plenty of people who will do that for us.

However, it is not a good idea. We need people around us who will tell us the truth. King Ahab surrounded himself with hundreds of yes-men: “Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, ‘Shall I go against Ramoth Gilead to fight, or shall I refrain?’ So they said, ‘Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king’” (1 Kings 22.6).

Bad idea. The king died in the battle.

Therefore, be courageous and look for truth-speakers, not yes-men.

Questions:

  • What kind of people surround you?
  • Are you a truth-speaker or a yes-man?
