When you are overwhelmed

Old Testament: 2Ch 14.9–11

To read the Bible in a year, read Second Chronicles 13–16 on June 4, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025

The Old Testament has so many encouraging stories of God’s people overcoming immense odds that it makes for great and inspiring reading.

One of those stories is when the Ethiopians entered the land of Judah to attack with 1,000,000 men and 300 chariots (2 Chronicles 14.9–10).

However, King Asa knew what to do, knowing that he had something much greater on his side, “And Asa cried out to the LORD his God, and said, ‘LORD, it is nothing for You to help, whether with many or with those who have no power; help us, O LORD our God, for we rest on You, and in Your name we go against this multitude. O LORD, You are our God; do not let man prevail against You!’” (2 Chronicles 14.11).

King Asa knew the Lord God. That is why the king said that it was nothing for God to help. Think about it: If God created the heavens and the earth, what is the big deal that a million-man army seeks to attack his people?

Do the same thing when you are overwhelmed by a problem. Pray to God, confessing that you know it is nothing for him to help. Everything is easy for him!

Questions:

  • In whose name did Asa go out to fight?
  • Have you found yourself doubting that the Lord could help you?
