Do it quickly

Old Testament: 2Ch 24.4–5

Sometime after Joash became king of Judah, he saw that the house of God needed repair.

He got the priests together and told them what to do: “Now it happened after this that Joash set his heart on repairing the house of the LORD. Then he gathered the priests and the Levites, and said to them, ‘Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather from all Israel money to repair the house of your God from year to year, and see that you do it quickly.’ However the Levites did not do it quickly” (2 Chronicles 24.4–5).

His heart was right, not only in wanting the house repaired, but in instructing the priests and Levites to gather funds from all Israel, and that they do it all quickly.

There are things important enough that we cannot delay doing them, but amazingly, the priests and Levites did not do it quickly!

If anyone should have known the importance of what Joash wanted, it was them. However, they failed. He confronted them and things got going.

Sometimes we have to remind those who should know better what they should be doing.

Questions:

  • Who was the priest during the reign of Joash?
  • For how long did Joash reign?
  • What was his age when he began reigning?
