Be consecrated, then sacrifice

Old Testament: 2Ch 29.31–35

To read the Bible in a year, read Second Chronicles 29–31 on June 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025

By Don Ruhl

Hezekiah restored true worship of the one true and living God. Part of that required getting the priests ready to do their job: “Then Hezekiah answered and said, ‘Now that you have consecrated yourselves to the LORD, come near, and bring sacrifices and thank offerings into the house of the LORD’…So the service of the house of the LORD was set in order” (2 Chronicles 29.31–35).

Likewise, since Christians are priests, we have to prepare ourselves to serve the Lord and that means we also have to be consecrated, having our sins forgiven that we might approach the holy Lord of heaven.

Questions from today’s reading and devotional:

  • What did the Jews offer from their willing hearts?
  • What was set in order?
