New Testament: John 18.22–23
To read the Bible in a year, read John 18.1–23 on June 9, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025
By Don Ruhl
An officer slapped Jesus, accusing him of speaking disrespectfully toward the high priest.
However, Jesus responded with a good question: “And when He had said these things, one of the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, ‘Do You answer the high priest like that?’ Jesus answered him, ‘If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?” (John 18.22–23).
Jesus was right. If he had spoken evil, the officer should have provided evidence of it, otherwise, he had no business slapping the Lord Jesus Christ.
There is a lot of this going around, especially in the news, accusations of evil being made, and most in the population believe it, but there is no evidence to support it.
Questions from today’s reading and devotional:
- Who betrayed Jesus?
- What was the relationship between Annas and Caiaphas?
