Old Testament: 2Ch 35.3–6
To read the Bible in a year, read Second Chronicles 34–36 on June 11, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025

King Josiah restored worship of God, and part of that included encouraging the priests to do their job: “Then he said to the Levites who taught all Israel, who were holy to the LORD: ‘Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon the son of David, king of Israel, built. It shall no longer be a burden on your shoulders. Now serve the LORD your God and His people Israel. Prepare yourselves…slaughter the Passover offerings, consecrate yourselves, and prepare them for your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses” (2 Chronicles 35.3–6).
Why did he encourage them in the service of the house of the Lord? The word of the Lord through Moses had made those instructions.
Josiah loved God and recognized that all his brethren had a part to play in serving God. However, it all had to be according to the Lord’s instructions.
Is that not also true for us, that we must follow the Lord’s instructions?
Questions from today’s reading and devotional:
- To what extent did the Lord’s wrath arise?
- What nation did the Lord send against Judah?
