New Testament: John 20.19–20
To read the Bible in a year, read John 20 on June 13, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025
By Don Ruhl
After the death of Jesus, his disciples had gathered together, but they had not fully come to realize that Jesus had risen from the dead.
They got together on the first day of the week, which we know as Sunday. Then Jesus appeared in the locked room where they were, and he said, “Peace be with you” (John 20.19).
Next, he showed them his hands and his side, showing that it was him whom they had followed the past three and a half years, demonstrating that he had risen from the dead, as it had been reported to them earlier.
Surely, John made an understatement when they knew it was him, when John wrote, “Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord” (John 20.20).
Imagine the look on their faces when they finally realized that this was their Friend and Teacher!
Questions:
- How do you think you would have responded to the resurrected Christ?
- Why were the disciples meeting in a locked room?
