What government does when it does not know God’s people

New Testament: Acts 7.19

To read the Bible in a year, read Acts 7.1–19 on June 24, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025

By Don Ruhl

Stephen reminded the Jewish Council of their history and he pointed out that there arose a new king over Egypt who did not know the history of Egypt and Joseph.

Therefore, Stephen also noted: “This man dealt treacherously with our people, and oppressed our forefathers, making them expose their babies, so that they might not live” (Acts 7.19).

It is not only Israel that proved to be a blessing to Egypt, but the church has blessed many nations over the centuries, but later governments either forget about that history, or no one teaches it to them.

It is our job as the church to teach our society, not just our members. If you have only seen your job as instructing church members, then restructure your thinking and now see it as teaching the world. It will bless the church later, and prevent some persecution.

Questions from today’s reading and devotional:

  • How did Stephen address the Jewish Council?
  • How many people did Joseph have come down into Egypt?
