Old Testament: Job 8.11–18
To read the Bible in a year, read Job 7–9 on June 26, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025
By Don Ruhl
Bildad told his friend Job, that those who forget God, lose everything: “So are the paths of all who forget God; and the hope of the hypocrite shall perish, whose confidence shall be cut off, and whose trust is a spider’s web” (Job 8.11–18).
While that is true, Bildad misapplied it to Job. Bildad believed that since Job had lost everything, that must have meant that Job had forgotten God.
However, even those who remember God, as Job did, sometimes suffer loss. Therefore, we cannot make general statements that those who forget God always suffer loss in this life and that those who remember never suffer loss.
Questions from today’s reading and devotional:
- What did Job say that was a hard time for man on the earth?
- What did Job want the Lord to do with his transgression, if he had any?
