Old Testament: Jer 37.3–10
To read the Bible in a year, read Jeremiah 36–37 on November 3, In the year of our Lord Christ 2025
By Don Ruhl
The king of Judah asked Jeremiah to pray to God on their behalf because of the attack of the Chaldean army. However, it was not a favorable message from God:
And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “Pray now to the LORD our God for us.” …Then the word of the LORD came to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, “Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, Thus you shall say to the king of Judah, who sent you to Me to inquire of Me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army which has come up to help you will return to Egypt, to their own land. And the Chaldeans shall come back and fight against this city, and take it and burn it with fire…”
– Jeremiah 37.3–10
If you want prayers on your behalf, be sure that you are not asking to be blessed while in sin. Be ready to repent.
Questions from today’s reading and devotional:
- Who were Chaldeans?
- What nation came to Jerusalem and initially drove off the Chaldeans?
