Have you noticed that God spoke to the prophets in different ways? He showed Daniel mysterious visions, but he spoke plainly to Elijah. Hebrews start with this teaching: 

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets…

– Hebrews 1.1 

He is in charge. Therefore, he can do things as he pleases to do them. It also shows that it was God working and not just the prophet.
