Although the tabernacle by Moses and the temple by Solomon were on the earth they had divine or heavenly services, because they made a connection between earth and heaven, between man and God: 

Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary.

– Hebrews 9.1 

This is why God did not want anyone tampering with the ways of the earthly sanctuary, for they reflected on the ways of heaven. 

Likewise, he does not want anyone today seeking to alter the church, which is our connection to the divine.
