Does your heart condemn you?

New Testament: 1Jo 3.20–21

By Don Ruhl

If you condemn your heart, then what about God? Will he condemn you? Listen to John: “For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God” (1 John 3.20–21).

If then you know that the way you are living is not right, you cannot hope that in the Judgment, God will invite you into heaven. No, if you condemn yourself, you can rest assured that God will also condemn you.

He would still condemn such a person because he is greater than us and knows everything about us.

Therefore, if we do not condemn ourselves, not that we deceive ourselves, but we know that we are following Jesus and his commandments, we can have confidence toward God, knowing we will have a good standing before him.

Questions:

  • What does your heart say about you?
  • What would God say about you?
