Blaspheming the Son of God

The Jews who arrested Jesus mocked Him, beat Him, blindfolded Him and hit Him, asking who it was that hit Him. Then Luke added,

And many other things they blasphemously spoke against Him (Luke 22:65).

Luke gave us enough information already up to that point for us to get the idea of how badly they treated Jesus, and they topped off all their sins that night by speaking words of blaspheming against Jesus.

Do we truly understand the gravity of blasphemy?

    (1) His Name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord!
He calmed my angry heart as He calmed the sea!
He fed my hunger with the Bread of Life!
He walked on the water, such great faith had He!

    (2) His Name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord!
He went to Calvary, the Lamb of God.
There He was vilified, the Living Word.
There He was crucified, Jesus the Christ, my Lord.

His faith! His love! His grace! His devotion!
His life! Sacrifice! His death and resurrection!

    (3) His Name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord!
He taught me to obey His every word.
In baptism my sins are forgiven!
I am saved by His grace through faith in Him!

    (4) His Name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord!
He is the Christ, the Son of the Living God!
Alpha and Omega, the Prince of Peace!
He taught me to love, even my enemies!

His faith! His love! His grace! His devotion!
His life! Sacrifice! His death and resurrection!

    (5) His Name is Wonderful, Jesus, my Lord!
He made me to walk and, though blind, to see!
He fed my hunger with the Bread of Life!
He walked on the water, such great faith had He!
