Healing by figs

Hezekiah became ill, and Isaiah told him that he would die, but King Hezekiah prayed to the Lord, and He heard the king’s prayer, and sent Isaiah back to the king with the message that he would live,

Then Isaiah said, “Take a lump of figs.” So they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered (2 Kings 20:7).

The Lord is the One who healed Hezekiah, but the Lord did it through the instruction of Isaiah, telling the king’s people to use a lump of figs, and the Lord did it through those people and their actions, and through the figs.

It was not a miracle, but the Lord worked nevertheless.

  1. Don, I’m surprised that some enterprising author hasn’t used that passage to write a book to convince people they can be healed by God like the one author did of the prayer of Jabez in trying to convince us that we could be successful if we just imitate Jabez’s prayer.
