Israel was the wife of the Lord, yet, she did not act like His wife, because she was going after her spiritual lovers. Therefore, He said,

“Bring charges against your mother, bring charges;
For she is not My wife, nor am I her Husband!
Let her put away her harlotries from her sight,
And her adulteries from between her breasts;
Lest I strip her naked
And expose her, as in the day she was born,
And make her like a wilderness,
And set her like a dry land,
And slay her with thirst.”
(Hosea 2.2–3)

The Lord did not want to see her humiliated, yet, the way she was acting, she would bring it upon herself.

Every individual Israelite had to repent of their sins to make Israel a pure bride of the Lord. Similarly, Christians often hurt the church, making it look as though she does not belong to the Lord. Are you making the church look bad or good in the sight of the world?
