Why do you believe what you do about Jesus?

06.10.2014 New Testament: John 18.34

To read the Bible in a year, read John 18.24–40 on June 10, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

The Jews handed Jesus over to Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor. Then he began his interrogation of Jesus to find out why the Jews wanted Him dead. Pilate asked Jesus, “Are You the King of the Jews?” Jesus came back with this thought-provoking question,

“Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?” (John 18.34).

Always the Teacher, Jesus knew the answer, but He wanted Pilate to think about it. How would you answer the question? Do you believe Jesus is the King of the Jews? Do you believe He is Lord? If so, why do you believe it?

    • Kip, I understand your confusion.

I am just wanting people to examine why they believe what they do about Jesus of Nazareth. Did they arrive at their beliefs by themselves, or do they simply parrot what others have told them? Have they examined the biblical evidence, or do they simply go along with the crowd?
