Paul let the Christians at Corinth know that, although they suffered, they would also experience consolation,

And our hope for you is steadfast, because we know that as you are partakers of the sufferings, so also you will partake of the consolation (2 Corinthians 1.7). 

That was a steadfast hope, because the Lord made the promise through the writing of Paul, and so shall it be with us.
