Who made the poor? Shall we suffer the calamity that others experience? With those questions in mind, listen to the Holy Spirit,

He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker;
He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished.
(Proverbs 17.5) 

Whatever you do to the least, you do to the One who made them, because when He was here, He lived as a poor man. Those who rejoiced at the calamity that befell Him, later suffered at the hands of the same people who crucified Him.
