Laboring fervently in prayer

Colossians Bible Background

10.12.2014 New Testament: Col 4.12–13

To read the Bible in a year, read Colossians 4 on October 12, In the year of our Lord 2014

Epaphras was from the Colossian Church, perhaps even their preacher, and while away from them, he prayed intently and relentlessly for them,

Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, greets you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. For I bear him witness that he has a great zeal for you, and those who are in Laodicea, and those in Hierapolis (Colossians 4.12–13).

He wanted to see his home congregation be perfect (mature) and complete in all of God’s will. Therefore, Epaphras prayed earnestly for them, not because he believed the power resided in him, or in the numbers of fervent prayers he offered, but he knew how important it was to grow in the will of God, and he wanted that for them.
