11.23.2014 Old Testament: Eze 30.1–5
To read the Bible in a year, read Ezekiel 29–31 on November 23, In the year of our Lord 2014
By Don Ruhl
The Lord used His prophets to speak to Israel mostly as He revealed both the blessings and the curses that He would put upon them, but He also used the prophets to do the same with the nations, or the Gentiles. Thus, He had Ezekiel write these words to Egypt and her allies,
The word of the Lord came to me again, saying,
“Son of man, prophesy and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God:
“Wail, Woe to the day!
For the day is near,
Even the day of the Lord is near;
It will be a day of clouds, the time of the Gentiles.
The sword shall come upon Egypt,
And great anguish shall be in Ethiopia,
When the slain fall in Egypt,
And they take away her wealth,
And her foundations are broken down.
Ethiopia, Libya, Lydia, all the mingled people, Chub, and the men of the lands who are allied, shall fall with them by the sword” (Ezekiel 30.1–5).
Israel and Judah had their times from the Lord when He rebuked them sharply and took action against them. The rest of the nations needed to know that their time was coming also. Just look at Egypt, Ethiopia, and Libya now, and you will see that the Lord humbled them just as He said He would do.
In the same way, the time of the Gentiles will happen again when the Lord pours out His wrath on that last great Day. Let us all make sure that we are walking in His grace when that day arrives.
