The value of reminders

2 Peter Bible Background

11.29.2014 New Testament: 2Pe 1.12–15

To read the Bible in a year, read Second Peter 1 on November 29, In the year of our Lord 2014

By Don Ruhl

Even if we have established ourselves in the truth, we need reminders of that truth that we might stay in the truth. Therefore, after Peter had already told his initial readers somethings that they once knew, he explained why he taught them again,

For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth. Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease (2 Peter 1.12–15).

Peter did not retire, but continued to teach the truth, because he knew he would not always be here, but that his hearers needed to hear the truth over and over again. Therefore, never become bored with truth, but let it so become ingrained in you that it is you and you are it.

  1. Amen. I like how you mentioned Peter did not retire, but continued to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ until the day of his death. There is a pastor at our church who has had a couple of heart surgeries, a lung biopsy, and cancer, but amazingly, He shows up to every prayer meeting. He is a modern day Peter, and I am grateful for His testimony. Thanks brother for the comments on 2 Peter. Have a great day.
